SOL will clinch the West with a win.

SOL 148.5, Snappers 109: SOL posted the high score for the year so far, as Snappers’ epic run of bad luck continues.

Maulers 129, Guns 77: Maulers coasted to victory behind the week’s top QB and WR.

Yankees 100, Weasels 61: Oh come on. The league’s best team got 38 from Taysom Hill??

MSG 99, Chumps 76.5: Chumps suffered a dreaded double goose-egg, one of which came courtesy of a kicker on IR.

Week 11 Awards: Snappers gets their third Hard Luck in the last four weeks. Mayhem gets their second Dumb Luck, albeit with the highest Dumb Luck score of the year so far.

Do I even need to say it? The East kicked y’all’s ass. The rest of you should just pack up and go home and let the four of us battle it out for the trophy. Actually I take that back – the rest of you being in it is my only chance at getting a playoff win and finishing in the money.

Still can’t adjust the column sizes

You may have heard I went to London last week on my final scouting trip of the year. I traveled a little more this year than usual, and took a few more pictures than usual, so I thought I’d share some of them here. It is my blog after all.

Commish Travelogue, part 1: Chicago

I went up there in June to see my kid and go to a Cubs game. We also took an architecture cruise on the Chicago River, which was excellent. June is a pretty good time to go to Chicago, just sayin’.

Wrigley was cool but I didn’t factor in the overhang. We couldn’t see anything hit in the air.
The kid and the Commish.
The St. Regis, my favorite building on the tour

I went again in September but for much less enjoyable reasons. I’ll hopefully go back next spring or summer for more fun stuff.

Top 5 Plays of the Week

5. For as much crap as I’ve given Will Levis this year, I have to give credit where it’s due. Dude channeled his inner Joe Namath on this one.

4. Fat Guy TD!

3. The best catch of the week was an interception.

2. The Packers blocked a FG at the gun to beat the Bears.

1. The play of the year, non-Hail Mary version.

Week 11 Overreactions

  • My vote for MVP:
  1. Josh Allen
  2. Jared Goff
  3. Lamar Jackson
  4. Justin Herbert
  • I guess if Mac Jones and Zach Wilson are still in the league then maybe Daniel Jones’ career isn’t completely over, but who would want him? I’d think even the Raiders would say “no thanks bruh, we’re good”.
  • The NFL is much more interesting with Famous Jameis starting each week. I hope he never leaves.
  • On the other hand, AA-Ron can’t go away soon enough.
  • For a while, “Dad, is Mommy a finance bro?” was my new favorite commercial, but they play it too much. If you watch the Stars on Victory+ it’s the first commercial played on every break.

Commish Travelogue, part 2: The Star

In August I toured the Star in Frisco with my dad and brother-in-law Matt. It was cool but there was a little too much of the tour guide describing great Cowboys moments while we looked at still pictures. More video would have nice. We opted out of the Owner’s Experience package that includes a “virtual conversation” with an AI version of Jerry. Not even kidding. What an ego on that guy.

The five Superb Owl trophies, each an artifact from an ancient time. Also pictured, my dad’s arm (right).
The first ring from 1971 is my favorite
Now this is a draft room, though I doubt it’s the one we could have rented for $1,800.

We’ll make up for last week with two Commish Tracks. First is Five O’Clock World by The Vogues, a great song that I first heard on the soundtrack to Good Morning Vietnam and was later featured as one of three theme songs to the Drew Carey Show. The “yeah yeah yeah” leading into the chorus is my favorite part.

The week 11 track is Don’t Look Back in Anger by Oasis. As far as Oasis tracks go I prefer Champagne Supernova but this one goes better on a draft playlist. Plus the video had Patrick Macnee for some reason.

Trivia question: Taysom Hill joined which Hall of Famer as the only players in NFL history with 25 career rushing TDs, 10 career passing TDs, and 10 career TD catches?1

Commish Travelogue, part 3: London

As previously mentioned, Matt and I went over for three days to catch a Tottenham match and tour the stadium. This was pretty much our itinerary.

Saturday 11/9

8:00a – Arrived in London after a nine-hour flight. Jet lag!

9:00a – Took an interminably long cab ride to the hotel that cost so much I won’t mention it here. Our biggest mistake of the trip.

12:00p – Went on an underwhelming sightseeing tour. An open air bus is less inviting when it’s 50 degrees and cloudy, but it was our best shot at seeing a lot of stuff quickly without having to think or move. Jet lag!

6:00p – Dinner at a pub, where I had an excellent Steak & Ale pie.

I never take pictures of food but this was excellent.

Sunday 11/10

10:00a – 12:00p: Headed to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and walked around the area for a bit.

Like JerryWorld, but awesome

12:00p – 1:30p: Hit multiple pubs with some other members of the Dallas Spurs supporters club.

Me and Matt outside pub #2
It’s not the size of your flag, but how you wave it

2:00p – 4:00p: Tottenham lost 2-1 to f*cking Ipswich.

We were in the upper deck, next to last row from the top, and could see everything perfectly

4:00p – 8:00p: More pubs. Seriously, they’re everywhere.

Pub #4, I think

8:00p – Matt and I had to quit the pub crawl and head back to the hotel. It was only 8:00 but it had been dark out for like four hours and we had put down enough beer. What can I say, I’m a lightweight.

Monday 11/11

8:30a – 9:30a: Walked around Westminster Abbey and Parliament Square Garden.

“Hands down, best Abbey I’ve ever seen”

9:30a – 11:00a: Toured the Churchill War Rooms and Museum. Very cool, highly recommend.

The map room

11:00a – 3:00p: Back to Tottenham for a stadium tour. Also very cool, also highly recommend.

I suck at panoramics
The players walkup to the pitch

7:00p – 10:00p: Dinner with an old friend from the Florida State days who lives in London.

Tuesday 10/12 – English breakfast at the hotel, then headed to Heathrow for the trip back.

I’d been to London once before, as part of a family European trip more than 30 years ago. I mentioned that to a woman outside one of the pubs and she said “Now you’re seeing a little more of the real London”. And she was right. I had a blast and will definitely be going back. And Spurs had better win next time.

Let’s also do two 80s Babes of the Week. As promised, the other blonde 80s Heather makes her appearance. Heather Locklear, come on down!

She was a totally believable cop on T.J. Hooker, but she’s not here for her acting resume. As I wrote in week 1, I preferred totally believable stuntwoman Heather Thomas back in the day, but Ms. Locklear was certainly no slouch. Here’s a side by side comparison if anyone needs help deciding.

In this contest, we’re all winners

The week 11 babe is Catherine Bach, aka Daisy Duke. I’m cheating a little here since she was a previous CFFL Babe from 2020, but that was the Covid year so did it really even count?

It’s one thing to be a sex symbol, but it’s another to have an article of clothing named after your character
Man, that smile. Honestly that’s hotter than one of her bikini pics.

Our Dad joke: I went to a friend’s funeral and asked his wife if I could say a word. “Of course,” she said, so I stood up and said “Plethora”. She said “Thanks, that means a lot”.

We’re back to divisional play this week, and soon the playoff seedings will start to come into focus. Everything’s still up for grabs, so let’s effin’ go!

Good luck to everyone (almost) in week 12,

The Commish
